Washington edged Birmingham 3-1 thanks to a 2-run double in the 9th inning from Ray Dandridge.
St. Louis rushed out to a 9-0 lead over Detroit, and hung on for an 11-7 victory. Oscar Charleston and T.J. Young homered for the victors, and Wild Bill Wright hit 2 home runs in defeat. Read more on Wright is today’s Player Focus.
Pittsburgh edged Kansas City 5-3 in 10 innings. Rev Cannady drove in a run during that 10th inning rally, and Roosevelt Davis pitched 4 innings of shutout ball to pick up the win.
New York was shut out 1-0 by Newark. Big Bill Foster out-dueled Satchel Page for the victory, giving up only 1 hit over 7 innings.

Ray Brown went 6 and one third solid innings as the Washington Homestead Grays defeated the Birmingham Black Barons by a score of 3 to 1 at the ballpark.
Washington came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 9th inning plating 2 runs. After an out was recorded, Turkey Stearnes keyed the rally when he drew a walk. Stearnes was safe on a stolen base. One out later, Willie Stargell was walked intentionally. Ray Dandridge stepped in and he doubled driving home two runs. For the game Washington out-hit Birmingham 6 to 2.
Burleigh Grimes(1-0) went 2 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Smokey Joe Williams(1-1) was tagged with the loss. He surrendered 5 hits and 3 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings.

Left fielder Carl Yastrzemski blasted a homerun and had 4 RBI at Mack Park where the St. Louis Stars beat the Detroit Stars by the score of 11 to 7.
Yastrzemski was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day at their team’s expense. He doubled scoring a run in the 3rd inning and lofted a three-run bomb in the 5th inning. St. Louis had a total of 16 hits for the game.
The victory was credited to Bill Holland(1-1) who went 8 innings, allowing 5 runs. Dick Redding(1-1) took the loss. St. Louis knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 5 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings.

Robin Yount collected 2 extra-base hits and Roosevelt Davis had an impressive outing as the Pittsburgh Crawfords defeated the Kansas City Monarchs in 10 innings 5 to 3 at Muehlebach Field.
The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. Pittsburgh came out the victor in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Jimmie Foxx began the rally when he doubled. One out later, Yount stepped in and he tripled driving in a run. Rev Cannady then laced a single scoring the final run of the inning. Pittsburgh finished with 12 hits in the victory.
The win was credited to Davis(1-1) who went 4 innings allowing no runs. Davis got help from John Smoltz who earned his 2nd save. Webster McDonald(1-1) was hit with the loss in relief. He gave up 2 runs and 4 hits in 2 innings.

Big Bill Foster had a strong outing at the ballpark as the Newark Eagles beat the New York Black Yankees 1 to 0.
Newark scored what proved to be the only run of the contest in the 3rd inning. That was all the offense they were to need. New York threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Foster(1-2) got the win allowing no runs in 7 innings. Foster got help from Goose Gossage who was credited with his 2nd save. Satchel Paige(0-1) was given the loss.
‘We just made a lot of mistakes, mostly mental,’ New York’s manager said. ‘It’s bad enough when the other team beats you, but when you start beating yourselves, that’s really bad.’
