St. Louis beat Birmingham 3-1, thanks to Oscar Charleston’s 2-run home run. Bill Holland picked up his second win.
Detroit edged Washington 9-8. Mule Suttles went 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBI, and Dick Redding won his second game on the season.
Newark beat Kansas City 5-2, thanks to 4 runs scored in the last 2 innings. Big Bill Foster picked up his second win, and Sammy T. Hughes had 2 hits and 2 RBI.
New York’s Satchel Paige spotted Pittsburgh a 2 run lead, but New York came back to win 7-2. Paige earned a complete game victory. Jimmie Lyons had 2 RBI, and Eddie Matthews had 3 hits (including a home run) and drove in 3 runs.

At the ballpark, the Birmingham fans witnessed a great pitcher’s duel. Bill Holland(2-1) finally bested his Birmingham opposite, Smokey Joe Williams(1-2), by the score of 3 to 1.
St. Louis brought 2 runs across the plate in the top of the 6th inning. The highlight belonged to Oscar Charleston who silenced the ballpark as he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run. Dennis Eckersley was perfect in the ninth giving him his 1st save on the season.

The Detroit Stars and the Washington Homestead Grays locked up in an exciting one-run game at Mack Park. The final score was the Detroit Stars 9, the Washington Homestead Grays 8.
Mule Suttles enjoyed a big day at the plate. He stroked a base-hit in the 2nd inning, doubled which brought home a run in the 5th inning and popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 7th inning. Washington made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
Dick Redding(2-1) got the win allowing 6 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings. Redding got relief help from Whitey Ford who gained credit for his 1st save. Ray Brown(1-2) was given the loss. He gave up 7 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings of work.
‘It’s a disheartening loss, no question about it’ said Washington’s manager ‘But we have to get over it and get ready for the next game.’

Ed Delahanty had 3 base hits as the Newark Eagles outscored the Kansas City Monarchs 5 to 2.
Newark erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 8th inning scoring 2 runs on 2 hits. Goose Goslin led off the inning for Newark when he drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Hank Greenberg came up and he drew a walk. John Beckwith then laced a one-base hit bringing in a run. Delahanty followed next and he smacked a single scoring the final run of the inning.
Newark had 10 hits for the game and Kansas City had 5.
The win was credited to Big Bill Foster(2-2) who went 7 innings allowing 2 runs. Goose Gossage recorded his 3rd save. Lee Smith(0-3) was tagged with the loss in relief.
With this win, Newark has a 5-9 record. They have been 4-6 lately. With the loss, Kansas City has a record of 3-7 lately, 5-9 overall.

Satchel Paige completed the game without help from the bullpen and Eddie Mathews homered and had 3 RBI at the ballpark where the New York Black Yankees beat the Pittsburgh Crawfords by the score of 7 to 2.
Mathews made sure the New York fans enjoyed themselves. He stroked a one-base hit in the 2nd inning, clubbed a two-run home run in the 3rd inning and doubled resulting in a run in the 8th inning. New York rapped out 11 hits for the afternoon.
Paige(1-1) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Bill Byrd(1-2) took the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 6 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings.
The New York ballclub’s record now stands at a league leading 10-4. With the loss Pittsburgh now has a record of 6-8.
