Pittsburgh finally lost its first game. As a lifelong Red Sox fan, I was thrilled to watch Pedro Martinez dealing for St. Louis. He took a no-hitter into the 6th inning, and ended up with 15 strikeouts. Dominant!
Speaking of dominant, Ralph Kiner hit 2 home runs again. This gives him 4 in two games.
Today’s Player Focus post is on the catcher for my Kansas City team, Quincy Trouppe. Trouppe went 0 for 1 as a pinch hitter, but he currently is leading the league with a .545 batting average.

Pedro Martinez took a no-hitter into the 6th inning and Oscar Heavy Johnson touched them all as the St. Louis Stars bested the Pittsburgh Crawfords 3 to 2 at Greenlee Field.
Martinez(1-0) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the Pittsburgh batters. He didn’t give up much, just 3 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. Martinez mowed down 15 Pittsburgh batters. The right-handed Martinez lost his no-hit bid when Neil Robinson doubled with one out in the 6th inning. St. Louis rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon.
Jim Palmer(0-1) was tagged with the loss. ‘When Martinez is on like that it is a tough game to play, no doubt about it,’ Pittsburgh’s manager said. ‘He always pitches well against us.’
