Detroit won at Newark, 5-3. Wild Bill Wright had a big day with 2 home runs and 3 RBI. Dick Redding picked up his 3rd win with 7 solid innings, giving up only 1 run. Bill Perkins had a home run and 2 RBI in the loss for Newark. Detroit turned a triple play in the bottom of the 8th!

Birmingham embarrassed Pittsburgh, 11-0. Smokey Joe Williams threw a complete game 5-hit shutout. Roberto Clemente hit a lead off home run for the second day in a row, ending up with 3 hits including a triple. Babe Ruth and Josh Gibson both homered in the victory, and Chaney White went 2-3 with 2 RBI. Jackie Robinson had 2 hits for Pittsburgh and Frog Redus doubled as well.

St. Louis beat New York 6-2. Joe Dimaggio went 3-4 with 2 RBI, Oscar Charleston had an RBI triple, and Tank Carr scored twice for St. Louis. Bill Holland had a solid start (6-2/3 innings, 2 runs) to pick up his 3rd win, while Satchel Paige dropped to 2-5 on the season. Newt Joseph did all he could do for New York with 2 hits and 2 RBI.

Kansas City beat Washington 4-2. Ted Williams had a big day, going 2-2 with a solo home run and 3 walks. Johnny Mize went 3-5, and Alejandro Oms drove in 2 runs. Max Manning allowed 2 runs to pick up his 4th win. Chino Smith had an RBI triple for Washington.

Right fielder Wild Bill Wright ripped 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Detroit Stars defeated the Newark Eagles by the score of 5 to 3 at the ballpark.
The Newark fans didn’t appreciate the big day Wright had. He smashed a bases-empty ‘big-fly’ in the 2nd inning, laced a base-knock in the 4th inning and cracked a two-run shot in the 8th inning. Newark threatened in the 9th but Detroit was able to put down the rally.
The winning pitcher was Dick Redding(3-2) who allowed 1 run in 7 innings. Bruce Sutter preserved the game for Redding, recording his his 10th save. Big Bill Foster(6-3) was the losing pitcher.

Smokey Joe Williams delivered 9 solid innings at Greenlee Field as the Birmingham Black Barons, running on all cylinders, ripped the Pittsburgh Crawfords by a large 11 to 0 margin.
Roberto Clemente was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day at their team’s expense. He blasted a solo shot in the 1st inning, singled in the 7th inning and tripled scoring a run in the 8th inning. Birmingham finished with 13 hits in the victory.
Williams(3-3) was credited with the shutout, his first of the year. Bill Byrd(2-4) was the loser. ‘We didn’t have a whole lot of chances today,’ Pittsburgh’s manager said. ‘Williams just was too much for our guys.’

In a two run game the Kansas City Monarchs got by the Washington Homestead Grays by the score of 4 to 2.
Max Manning(4-2) gave Kansas City a solid outing. He allowed 5 hits and 5 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings dropping his ERA from 5.33 to 4.96. The Washington batters went down meekly in the bottom of the 9th.
