Newt Joseph was a hard playing third baseman who got the most out of his abilities.

“Newt Joseph was a fun-loving guy who actually managed the Monarchs for a while … In his day, he was a great sign-stealer, and he taught me some of his tricks.”

Buck O’Neil

Newt Joseph played for the Kansas City Monarchs from 1922-1935. He also played for Satchel Paige’s All-Stars in 1939. He and second baseman Newt Allen were inseparable roommates. His home run clinched the 1923 Negro National League pennant. The Monarchs won the World Series in 1924 and lost the World Series in 1925. Newt’s average those two years was .334 and 326.
