Charlie Blackwell was one of the best Negro League outfielders – a contact hitter with good power and an excellent eye, as well as having good speed.

“An excellent contact hitter, he had a good eye at the plate and seldom struck out, but also had good power.”

historian/author James A. Riley

Charlie Blackwell, sometimes called “Rucker”, played from 1915-1929. He played with the St. Louis Stars, Indianapolis ABCs, and several other teams. In 1919 he slashed .364/.440/.659, finishing third in OPS+ to Pete Hill and Oscar Charleston. 1921 may have been his best season, slashing .405/.478/.670. That season he also had 20 outfield assists.
