Alejandro Oms was a Cuban outfielder who starred in the Cuban and Negro Leagues. He was a colorful player who occasionally would catch fly balls behind his back.

“Oms threw and hit left-handed and seems to have been a line drive hitter somewhat in the mold of Rod Carew but with more power.”

Roberto Gonzalez Echevarria, in The Pride of Havana: A History of Cuban Baseball

Oms played from 1917-1935, playing with the Cuban Stars and the New York Cubans. The left handed batter could hit with power to all fields, and did hit cleanup behind Martin Dihigo. In his last, season he hit .381 for the New York Cubans in 1935 to help them win the second-half championship, before losing the Negro National League championship to the Pittsburgh Crawfords.

Oms was selected to play in the 1935 East-West All Star game, going 2-4 in his only appearance. He was elected to the Cuban Hall of Fame in 1944.
